Planting Peace, a national nonprofit organization, bought a house across the street from the Westboro Baptist Church (a vocal anti-LGBT organization) and painted it the colours of the gay pride flag. The house is called the "Equality House" and it's meant to symbolize equality, peace and positive change.
I think it's beautiful, as is the message of equality and tolerance, however I do find this approach a tad confrontational (although I'm sure the church protests were also confrontational)
The other outcome of the Equality House is that I now totally have multi-colour/rainbow house envy. (Before I just had house envy. I love my neighbourhood and I love my home but condo living can be rough storage wise).

If Dan and I decide we don't want to live in Toronto anymore OR decide the need for space outweighs the need to live in the city, I'm totally buying a house in a neighbourhood that will allow me to paint it multiple bright colours.
