Hunger Games

I found the diagram below in an article about the Hunger Games.  I thought it could be fun if I tried to think of a few reasons as to why I wouldn't survive the Hunger Games.  *Spoiler: my answers are not as funny as the diagram*

via The Awl

Five reasons why I wouldn't survive the Hunger Games:

1) I Don't Run
Like ever! I'd rather take the next streetcar than run to catch one at the last moment.  I don't know the reason, perhaps it's because I haven't mastered the correct breathing pattern, but I've never liked running.  I'll do any other kind of cardio so if I could escape fire grenades by doing sideway travelling jumping jacks then maybe I'd have a shot.

2) Vegan
The not eating animals thing may pose a problem especially when you add in the fact that I'm oblivious.  Guaranteed I'd eat poisonous berries within the first 30 minutes of the games.

3) Not Graceful
I'm Peeta Mellark with a leg injury times ten.  I've been told by family members that I sound like a herd of elephants when I walk.  It's probably why I sucked at ballet but excelled at tap dance. Any tributes within a 5KM radius would hear me traipsing through the woods.  (But they'd have to catch me before I ate poisonous berries or morphed into jumping jack mode)

4) Weather-phobe (and Nature)
I cannot stand extreme heat or cold...but will deal with cold.  I'm allergic to my body's chemical reaction to the sun so I constantly get sun rashes.  I'm generally just a giant baby and if the temperature is slightly uncomfortable I become a drama queen.  I also kind of really hate being outside.  I think nature is beautiful, I just don't want to be around it.

5) No Arthur
I wouldn't want to bring Arthur into that situation but I also wouldn't want to be without him.  How could I stand being away from this guy?

Thankfully I don't foresee myself being in an outdoor, battle to the death any time soon.  I'll just stick to the occasional hike in the park.  I know Arthur will appreciate that!

May the odds be ever in your favour!

Music Monday

ONLY 25 MORE DAYS UNTIL THE HUNGER GAMES MOVIE HITS THEATRES!!!! Phew, now that I've got extreme dorkiness out of the way, let's get on with today's post.

So let's start today with a first time "Music Monday" post!  I love music.  I don't think I could live without music.  I love going to concerts.  I love hearing about new bands.  Music, music, music!

The band I picked for this week's Music Monday is Yelle a French dance/pop band from France.  Dan and I have been having a lot of dance parties as of late (I've always said: the couple who dances together, stays together) and we always tend to gravitate towards Yelle. Our favourites are: Comme Un Enfant, Chimie physique, A cause des garcons, and Je veux te voir.  But really any Yelle song = happy, fun, dancing time!

Yelle have two albums, Pop Up, which was released in 2007 and Safari Disco Club which was released last year.  I can't pick a favourite.

They also have some really awesome music videos.  The one posted below is for the remix of Comme Un Enfant and it features awesome dancer Nathan Barnatt and Martin Starr from Freaks and Geeks.

I'm having some technical difficulties viewing this video and I pray that it's the right one.  I apologize in advance if I've inadvertently Rick Rolled you all....or worse.

I hope you like Yelle and have some dance parties of your own!

Also, check out this amazing give away over at Vintage Wanna Bee.  It's a February Giveaway Extravaganza!!

Good luck with the give away...but not too much luck because I want to win :p

Oh, Peeta Mellark...

So last night I was sitting on the couch, watching TV, with a sleepy, farting Arthur at my side and a commercial for the Hunger Games appeared on the screen.  Immediately I whipped out my calendar and counted the days until March 23rd, the release date.  There are 31 more days, guys!!  I may have also let out a girlish squeal…who can remember such details.

I've never read any of the books in the Harry Potter series and have only seen the first film. Someone conned me into reading the first book in the Twilight series and I've unfortunately seen all of the movies.  Youth-adult fiction is not something I typically gravitate towards but Suzanne Collins you have brought out my inner teen angst and I’m completely enchanted by your post-apocalyptic world.

An overview of the story (thank you wikipedia):

The story revolves around sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where the countries of North America once existed. The Capitol, a highly advanced metropolis, holds absolute power over the rest of the nation. The Hunger Games are an annual event in which one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each of the 12 districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a televised battle in which only one person can survive.  Lots of stuff happens!

I feel like such a total dork but I am so excited for this movie!!

Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark.
If you're looking for a new book to read, I definitely recommend this series.  It's also a fairly easy read.

I might read Battle Royale next, which I hear is very similar to the plot of Hunger Games.  So similar that people have accused Suzanne Collins of ripping it off.  We'll see.

Have you read the Hunger Game series? Excited for the movie?  Are you reading anything you'd think I should read? Are you having pancakes for dinner tonight?

P.S. I'm really confused as to why my blog is found with the search keywords "balls slapping crazy".  One of life's mysteries I guess.
