 1. Vegan Animal Cracker Truffles

Say WHAT??????  These look similar to the cookie dough truffles I posted here but with cream cheese and desecrated animal crackers.

I'm adding these to my must try list.

2. Adorable Felt pieces by Clairey Lou Creations

Check out these super cute felt creations in Clairey Lou Creations' etsy shop.

3. Milk Bottle Measuring cups from Anthropologie

It's cute and saves space which, as a condo dweller, is very important to me.

This week I had to design a summer newsletter for my work and I decided that "Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlours" would be my inspiration.  A google search turned up a post by Amy Moss on her blog Eat Drink Chic.  She designed a "Make Your Own Sundae" buffet, which first, is an awesome idea for a party.  Second, her designs are beautiful.  Here are just a few pictures:

A theme started developing as I to began compile my list of five favourites.  I guess thanks to that newsletter I had summer on my mind.

I love how the popsicle stick can be removed or used as a stand.

Arts & Crafts

Sometimes I catch Arthur doing the cutest things.  This is a picture that I took yesterday - he was just sitting in his favourite chair, holding a bone in his mouth while looking back and forth between me and Dan.

In other Arthur related news, I found some Sculpey when we pulled the Christmas stuff (and some craft bins) out of storage.  I made this Arthur brooch...Dan thinks it looks like Arthur after he stuffed his face full of Christmas dinner.

Marvelous Mail Monday #1

I'm actually really stoked about this post today because it's my first Marvelous Mail Monday blog posting.  If you don't know what Marvelous Mail is you can read about it here but essentially it's like Secret Santa (or penpals) for the internet.  You send mail to one person and receive something from another.  Fun, right?

I can't believe I'm this excited on a Monday
Want to participate in Marvelous Mail but don't know how? It's simple, just email marvelousmail@gmail.com with the subject Alex & Arthur and I'll know you're in!  You can also comment down below as long as I'm able to contact you to get your personal information.

You can visit the Marvelous Mail livejournal community if you want ideas as to the type of things people send and receive.  There are also a set of rules that we'll most likely adopt.

Happy Mailing Everyone!

Marvelous Mail - Who doesn't like Mail?

Does everyone remember Livejournal?  I started mine one rainy afternoon as I was watching the movie Suburban Commando, which was the inspiration for the name Hogan_nator.  (I don't know why I just linked to my journal, I was just reading over some posts and it's incredibly embarrassing, please don't read it.)

You may be thinking, "why are you talking about Livejournal, Alex? Did your blog just travel back to the early 2000's?" Well, my lovely readers, it relates to two pretty ladies that I know and a community called Marvelous Mail.  Marvelous Mail was started by my school chum Stephanie in 2005, who then passed the torch to the lovely lady pictured below in her business-y Canada day attire:

This is Sarah.  She speaks French, paints, has an English Bulldog named Lemon, and is a total sweetheart.  She's the boss when it comes to Marvelous Mail, I'm hoping to learn much from the master.  She also has a job interview today, good luck S-berg!
(I didn't post a picture of Stephanie because I didn't get a chance to ask her if I could but she's also a rad dudette!)

I'm totally getting off topic. The reason for this post is that we're hoping to start up Marvelous Mail again and not too many people still use livejournal.  What is Marvelous Mail you ask?

Marvelous Mail is for people (from anywhere in the world) who want to send and receive little packages through the mail.  Each package is filled with requirements which are determined before each round (for example, a small painting, a photo, etc.)  Each round usually has a theme but sometimes there are free-for-alls. (Past theme examples: Halloween or all items had to start with the same letter)

Names are drawn and matched at random.  So you will be given a name and an address to send your package and another person will have your information.  You don't have to spend a lot of money to participate, handmade items are encouraged.

Want to know more? you can check out the link to the LJ community for more indepth info and some of the rules we'll potentially adopt.  You can also view items that people have received.

For now I just want to get a feel for how many people would like to participate.  If it looks like this will garner enough attention to hold a round 1, I'll post more details and rules at a later date.  Some brief rules for now:
  1. Must like getting mail
  2. You don't need to have a blog but must have the ability to post pictures of what you received so that I can link to it for all to see.  (I'm hoping to do recaps on Mondays once the round is underway)
  3. Don't post people's personal information.  You can link back to whatever blog, tumblr, twitter, etc. that's provided but do not share personal information.
So if you want to join the first round leave a comment below and send a quick email to marvelousmail@gmail.com with the subject Alex & Arthur.

If you don't want to participate but think this is a neat idea, I'd really appreciate if you could post this button for others to see.

It really is fun. We did this in university and receiving a package in the mail brightened my day when I was stressed out from school.  Preparing the package is also just as fun as it is receiving one.

I'm hoping we have some happy mailers out there.

Crafting Space

I'm in desperate need of a space to sew, craft, paint and draw that's NOT my dining room table. I'd also like a space that's away from Arthur just in case I drop tiny bits of thing-a-ma-jigs or sewing needles.

But it becomes a little tricky with the amount of space I have. I love living in Toronto but it's very expensive, so it's condo life for me. I love my condo, the security guards and residents are all sweethearts to Arthur, the walls are made of concrete so I barely hear my neighbours and it's right next to a tiny protected public park (no other buildings will be erected to block my view of the CN Tower).  The downside is that I really could do with more space and about half of the condo "walls" are made of floor to ceiling windows making it hard to insert selves.  I really need to figure out how to utilize the vertical space we do have.

I've been looking up tiny craft areas on the internet in hopes of creating my own work environment. I've started formulating a plan and I really hope it works out.

Here are a few of my favourite tiny crafting spaces.

Okay, I absolutely adore IHeart Organzing's closet craft room.  It's adorable and an efficient use of space.  Absolutely everything you need is available and well organized.

Check out another closet crafting room -- this one belongs to Laurana.  Hello kitty x2!

Check out this insanely cute crafting desk featured on Everything Etsy.

As mentioned, I have vertical space and the wall storage featured on Apartment Therapy would perfectly fit in the area I'm planning on using as my craft nook.
I'm actually quite excited to start designing my craft space AND to have a home for all my supplies.  Currently my button maker is shoved under one of the side tables in my living room and every time I need to make buttons, it's either on my coffee table or dining room table and both surfaces are made of glass -- yikes!

Do you have a lovely craft room to call your very own? Any tips I can use when I start organizing my space?

Happy Monday!

Alex & Arthur
